Anyone can engage in our Music Play sessions, you don't need familiarity with music to experience the benefits. The therapy is integrated into the music play sessions, tailored to the individual needs of the client.
Rhythm regulates the polyvagal nervous system which helps to bring the body into a calm centered space giving psychological safety.
Music Play can help to improve self-esteem and reduce stress. These sessions can also be beneficial for people with depression and anxiety, or help with the effects of Trauma in the body.
Additionally, Music in sessions can improve the quality of life for people with physical health problems or disabilities.
The structure of a session differs depending on individual or group needs. Sessions may be structured or casual therapeutic play as part of art therapy and/or counselling sessions.
Sessions can involve:
- Using a variety of musical instruments to make music
- Writing and/or recording songs
- Singing
- Dancing/movement
- Listening to music
Ballarat Art Therapies also facilitates DRUMBEAT and Rhythm2Recovery sessions, although usually in group format, these can be tailored to individual sessions, see our Group Programs page for more information.
